What "refurbished" actually means

The term is applied inconsistently across this market. It covers systems that were powered on, inspected and photographed, and systems that were stripped to the frame. Both listings read the same.

Three tiers, fixed definitions

Dynode treats each tier as a fixed definition rather than a description. The tier on the listing is the tier that arrives.

Refurbished Disassembled, cleaned, wear items replaced, tested to specification and warrantied.
Tested Powers on, verified functional. Not stripped, not rebuilt.
As-Is Sold untested, as received, and priced accordingly.

The bench sequence behind a Refurbished listing

If a stage did not happen, the system is not listed as Refurbished. The summary version of this sequence is on the refurbishment page; the detail is below.

  1. Identified By model number and serial, which is what the listing is written against.
  2. Disassembled The system is opened. No component is assessed through a closed panel.
  3. Cleaned Flow path and surfaces, before anything is judged as working or not.
  4. Wear items replaced The parts that are consumed in normal service, not only the ones that already failed.
  5. Tested to spec Against manufacturer performance specifications, on every measured parameter.
  6. Chromatography-verified A real run in our in-house lab, operating to ISO 17025 standards.
  7. Documented Test data and the calibration record travel in the pouch, outside the sealed carton.
  8. Warrantied 90 days parts and labor as standard. 180 days with IQ/OQ qualification.
  9. Supported Install and service nationwide through our service partner.

Common questions

Is a refurbished instrument the same as a tested one?

No. Refurbished, tested and as-is are three fixed tiers. A unit that was only function-checked is listed as Tested. A unit sold as received is listed As-Is and priced accordingly.

How do I know which tier a listing is?

Every Dynode listing states its tier, with the definition printed beside it. The tier on the listing is the tier that arrives.

What warranty comes with a refurbished system?

90 days parts and labor as standard, extending to 180 days with IQ/OQ qualification.

Is the instrument tested with a real sample?

Yes. Every system listed as Refurbished is chromatography-verified on a real run in our in-house lab, and the data file ships with the instrument.
